The gathering of items that we must have on the boat continues to grow. There are fishing poles and reels and yarn and needles. Guess who is packing what? We have weighed the cases this time and know that we are under the 50 pound weight. As much as I love the rolling cases, they do take poundage away from you!

Flight leaves at 6:45 am again. In January, Continental is changing their first flight to 8 something. I like that much better!

We are sleeping on land for nine nights. We are home. It is Thanksgiving and this family has so much about which to be thankful. We all have our health. We have created our own happiness. We have a new member of the York Clan in that Jameson married Robyn this fall. And, we use to have wealth, until Prime Time came into our lives!

But then there is the wealth of experiences that Kelley and I will have in the upcoming months. We return to Florida on Thursday, the 29th, and will be there for 2 weeks. This will be our first chance to take the boat out for a spin on our own. We are planning to cruise for about 5 days. And then? Well, I have been looking into one way flights….but, to think that far ahead for me becomes overwhelming. I am not a brave person. I would have been in St. Louis waving good -bye to my friends leaving for the West in their covered wagons; and then I would have happily returned to my home. But I have always admired strong women. Perhaps it is time for me to step up!

So to all of our friends, thank you for your good wishes. We are thankful for your friendship. Cheers!

I just want a shower. Surely that isn’t too much to ask. I am sure the people that I have been around would like me to have a shower also. Let’s see…the master shower’s sump pump was one of those “search every 90 seconds looking for water.” Kelley disconnected it. But then he wanted the water pump to work. Why? We are connected to city water. But noooooo. So we have spent the day driving around Fort Myers making new best friends at every store we visited.

Kelley is so talented. A new water pump and it works! And the sump pump will be replaced! There are showers in our futures.

There are many boats here with liveaboards and as I was making the last trip to fetch treasures from our shopping many were gathered on boats toasting the sunset. Apparently this is a very friendly marina. There is a note up for a pot luck Thanksgiving. I think this is great to have a little community around us. Our Port neighbors lived in Mexico for 8 years. They have a Mexican dog…she barks in Spanish when ever she hears us approach. We understand she is friendly; but I tell people that same thing about Cricket as she barks and races to the gate when strangers approach. Painta will get us to us.

Hope your sunset is as pretty as ours is here!

(I did finally get my shower and it was terrific. Thank you, friends, for your concerns!)

I was so pleased to finally see Prime Time come in and be tied up in her new home for a while: E46. Apparently the trip up, although pleasant for Kelley and the captain who was making the transfer, was done without the aid of Auto and GPS on the bridge…GPS wanted to stay in the salon on the lap top which cannot be read on top. But they made it. (I only made a little detour while driving….if ever in Florida on the 75 and you miss the last exit for Fort Meyers on the 75 going north…just know that the next exit is about 17 miles down the road). We are so pleased to be tied up here, although as I waited for them, I was concerned about all of the bikes and hogs that were coming down the road. How safe is Fort Myers, I asked myself?

So, I get on board and unpack all of the treasures that I have purchased for the day and finally, we are alone…6 o’clock. Hungry? We are early eaters…those of you who know, the number 23 holds a warm spot in our hearts. So, we look at the spots Kelley’s new best friend, Sue of the yacht basin, has suggested and we select two, both within walking distance.

We walk and there is band music that is becoming louder…much louder than the cafe in Avalon. There is the roar of motorcycles and we are now shaking our heads. Oh, my God, a party has been thrown for us! What a surprise!

Off we go to Delicious Things (2262 1st St., Fort Meyers – (239) 332-7797) and look at the menu. As I read I hear a gruff voice say, “Just order the lasagna; it is the best I have ever had.” So I turn and smile the Mona Lisa smile I have and say, “Really?” The head-kerchiefed wrapped man of about 60, black leather vest without sleeves on his undershirt says , “Yes. Just order it.” Kelley says he will and if it isn’t the best he has ever had, he will return and take the man down. Lots of laughter on that one.

The poor restaurant was so crowded, a table wasn’t available so we hit the bar for dinner. The most delightful night unfolded. A young lady, whose name is Kelly, was sitting next to me and joined us in conversation…[Spencer, if only you had been there]. We decided to eat dinner there and had delicious shrimp (spicy) pasta and, of course, the lasagna. The poor owner and waiters were being harranged by the guests…how long must we wait? does anyone speak good English? Kelley and I ordered and sat and were entertained. It was a great evening and we look forward to visiting tomorrow night to smile and say thank you for the great experience….

We had to do the Bike Shuffle, so we walked down 1st and oohed and aahed over the bikes that were there. LED lights not only pollute the water at night in Avalon, but they now can be put on bikes and light up the highways across America. And RV’s, my goodness what can be done for the biker! How come the boating industry hasn’t figured out the biking needs of the citizens of the USA? Gosh, Kelley and I are rethinking our need for fold up bikes and thinking a hog with stereo and air conditioning.
