After a quiet night on the hook in North Sandy Cove, we headed north and soon were at Tidal Inlet, we were greeted by

We went by Lamplugh Glacier. It sits back from the water, but it is calving onto the beach and/or the tide is eroding it, when it is high. This glacier sits about 150 feet above the waterline and is about .75 miles across and 16 miles long. The NPS believes that is loses about 2 to 3 feet a da, however it is “stable to receding.”

And then, the Johns Hopkins GlacierDSCN2737
This one sits 250’ above the waterline and 200’ below. It is possible that glacier can calve under the water; apparently if they do the ice pops up! This glacier is advancing and thickening. How terrific!

We stayed for about an hour and a half and watched the glacier calve. Two huge towers crashed into the water as well as small bits. What a sight.

This boat, Mola Mola, is from Newport Beach – look at the size of this Glacier compared to the boat!

Anchored in Reid Cove and invited the people on Mola Mola for cocktails.

After listening to the lecture we are off to explore the Lodge.

We stopped to see the skeleton display of Snow, a humpback, whale that was killed by a cruise ship in Glacier Bay. She was huge.
